…for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. Luke 16:8 KJV
There is a subtle but very critical concern about our scarce appropriation of the virtue of wisdom as Christians in the business and corporate world. It is an abuse of the sacrifice made by Christ, if we just live and generate result in the same class as unbelievers, not to even mention lower class. It does not honour Christ if we will not yield results that will make the world bow to his infinite intelligence. To what use then, do we put his resources?
It may appear that Christians become wise by default at new birth. This assumption is not exactly right. That is the more reason we think that we are in adequate in wisdom always. At new birth, we were born into a massive repository of resources, part of which includes wisdom, but that is not the same as us being automatically wise at redemption.
James, speaking to ‘the Brethren’ says, ‘If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask…’ (James 1:5 KJV). This suggests that a brother in the Lord can lack wisdom. Not because his Lord has not provided it at redemption, but the saint has not asked for, nor used it. We can have foolish saints of God.
The 10 virgins in Matthew 25 were qualified to be invited by the groom, either due to their holiness or by sheer grace of the groom, but five of them failed to see the groom despite the invitation. Why? Lack of wisdom! They were mentally lazy not to have pre-empted all possible circumstances, planned, coordinated themselves accordingly and provided enough resources. They acted too regular, expecting the groom to arrive in their own expected time. They were holy but lacked wisdom. That is the definition of some of us today.
There is no place where we are assured that only holiness will deliver to us our earthly or spiritual inheritance. Even the ministry, which has been committed to us, will require wisdom; ‘Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves’ (Matthew 10:16 KJV). We must learn to walk circumspectly, consciously strategizing and appropriating divine wisdom for daily living. It is important, for us to live above temptations and to excel in corporate and business world for the glory of God.
Rehab, a mere harlot, strategized her way into a covenant with the Israelites. She considered that if spies from Israel, with an undefeatable God were already scanning Jericho, then Jericho was doomed. She strategically realigned her position, offered to help the spies, made them sign a covenant with her (Joshua 2). She saved not just herself alone, but all of her family members also. She was not even who you will call a believer.
Christians need to pay more attention to the Bible, not just for knowledge but also for a dignified living through the wisdom in its pages. We must seek more of the Holy Spirit inspired-strategies for a distinguished life. You cannot run your business, yielding poor results as if you do not have a vault of absolute intelligence. You cannot be as ordinary as everyone in your office, we must showcase the infinite wisdom of our God for distinction.
… and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth. 2 Samuel 14:20 KJV
Wisdom will always deliver. It is the principal thing.
